5 Tips to be Confident Being Yourself
Even the greatest leaders
lack self-confidence at certain times. Self-confidence is not a static quality;
rather, it’s a mindset that takes effort to maintain when the going gets rough.
It must be learned, practiced and mastered just like any other skill. But once
you master it, you will be changed for the better.
Start being yourself and step into your true nature by showing people
your strengths, flaws, weirdness and real personality; it can open you up to a
whole new world.
1. 1. Adapt to Situations - During day to day life, we meet a wide variety and
number of people. Friends, colleagues, bosses, and you will probably have your
own way of conversing with each one. Keep in mind that the alternative sides of
your personality should be embraced. You are not changing yourself, instead
adapting and portraying in the most appropriate form. You can be chatty,
humorous, excitable and engaged but in varying amounts, depending on the
situation, conversation and appropriateness. And as a person, this is a pretty
important trait and skill to have. Embrace the fact that you are able to adapt
your personality to highlight your best manners and etiquette.
2 2. Act Your Part - Your body language can instantly
demonstrate self-assuredness, or it can scream insecurity. Present yourself in
a way that says you are ready to master and take command of any situation. If
you look confident and act the part you aspire to reach, you’ll not only feel
in control but people will have much more confidence in you as well. Look
directly at the other person when interacting, maintain a good eye contact and be
confident while someone is speaking to you.
3. Think Positively – Set your mind to any
situation, avoiding the negative self-talk that can make you feel less
confident. Smile, laugh and surround yourself with happy, positive people.
You’ll feel better and the people with whom you work will enjoy your company. Remind
yourself of the high points of your day and your accomplishments and you’ll
develop more peace and confidence once you have a grateful state of mind.
4. 4. Accept your Real Self – Once you figure out what drives and motivates you, the
best path to being your real self is to accept who you really are - the good,
the bad, and everything in between. Be your own greatest fan and best friend.
You don't need to be perfect. Just be yourself. There's great power in
accepting yourself for who you really are.
5. 5. Embrace Your Flaws - One of the most hindering factors in building
confidence is your self-esteem. Nobody is perfect and we all have parts of
ourselves that we wish we could change. Learn to
accept your unique qualities and realize it is what makes you, You. When it
comes to partners, friends and colleagues, if anyone has an issue with the real
you, inside and out, then they really are not someone worth knowing.
Finding your
true self, with no apologies and no self-depreciation, is a major step to
feeling confident on the inside and appearing confident on the outside. Stand
up tall and never apologize for who you are.
When we have important goals to achieve it's up to us
to do what it takes to achieve them. Become self-reliant without pushing others
away. Be welcoming, and invite others to help you on your path to success, but
realize that it's ultimately up to you to reach it.
